UPDATE (1/8, 7:02 p.m.): It’s a miracle. Brent Vinson has been allowed to remain enrolled at UT for the spring semester, enabling him to stay on the team and keeping his chances of reestablishing the dominant form we saw in 2007.
As the Lane Kiffin era begins, the careers of three Volunteers end.
It appears that both Ramone Johnson and Darius Myers have been dismissed from the team for violation of team rules. No exact reason is yet known, but from what happened earlier in the season, in which both players were suspended for the Georgia game, academic struggles probably played a key role in both players losing their opportunity to play for the Volunteers.
The third player we say goodbye to is Brent Vinson, who was not granted a waiver to re-enroll for the spring semester at UT, all but ending his career as a Vol. Vinson has struggled academically over the past year, being suspended for the season opener at UCLA for academic reasons.
It’s sad to see these players go, especially Vinson, who was a highly touted five-star recruit coming out of Hargrave Military Academy. But at the same time, it’s encouraging to see Coach Kiffin instilling some sort of standards for a team that has been rife with trouble over the last several years.
