And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth

Let’s acknowledge a trend here:

  • Steven Gray – 19 points; Matt Bouldin – 17 points; Josh Heytvelt – 15 points
  • Dionte’ Christmas – 35 points
  • Sherron Collins – 26 points;  Cole Aldrich – 22 points
  • Matt Bouldin – 26 points
  • Jodie Meeks – 54 points

These are all of Tennessee’s losses this season, and each shows one of our most glaring weakness: defense.  Add that to us having no pure shooter, no point guard, and a lack of play from our much-hyped freshmen and we’ve got ourselves a team that might struggle to make the NCAA tournament.  If we’re going to turn it around, we need to do it quickly.

Tonight was the worst defensive showing of the season, with our perimeter D getting burned by Jodie Meeks to the tune of 10 three-pointers.  It was an awful site to see on television, I’m sure, but trust me… it was much worse in person.  For the second time in as many games, the crowd dressed in orange walked out of Thompson-Boling Arena with their heads hanging.  It’s feeling too much like football season,

There’s not much else I really have to say, except that I’m ashamed to have witnessed the most points ever put up by a Kentucky player in the history of their program take place on our home court.  Embarrassing.
