Recruiting Rankings and the NFL Combine

ESPN has put together a list of their final Top 25 recruiting classes before National Signing Day. I thought I’d put it up to compare it to their rankings post-NSD.

  1. LSU
  2. USC
  3. Texas
  4. Ohio State
  5. Florida
  6. Miami (FL)
  7. Georgia
  8. Alabama
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Florida State
  11. North Carolina
  12. South Carolina
  13. Notre Dame
  14. Michigan
  15. Penn State
  16. Tennessee
  17. Clemson
  18. Arkansas
  19. Rutgers
  20. Virginia Tech
  21. Michigan State
  22. Illinois
  23. Stanford
  24. South Florida
  25. Mississippi

Here’s what they had to say about the Vols:

In what has been a hectic past three months on the recruiting trail for Tennessee and new coach Lane Kiffin, the Vols have weathered the storm and now sit days away from signing day with an impressive class. Three ESPNU 150 prospects — wide receiver Je’Ron Stokes (Philadelphia/North East), running back David Oku (Midwest City, Okla./Carl Albert) and outside linebacker Jerod Askew (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Frommel Smith) — are on board now that Kiffin has completed his “super staff” of proven recruiters who also have NFL credibility. (However, there has been talk about Stokes and Oku might be wavering). This class needs a quarterback in the worst way, but Kiffin needs the right guy; that guy may not be available in this class. Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron and newly acquired linebackers coach Lance Thompson (from Alabama) have jumped on board, so the expectation level has been ramped up significantly in Knoxville. The Vols are still in the mix for some top recruits, including WR Marlon Brown (Memphis, Tenn./Harding Academy), who possesses elite size and would likely play right away. He would be a big get because it would keep one of the state’s top prospects at home, and he could help revamp the Vols’ offense and would improve an already solid class.

To keep the list theme going, check out the Vols who were invited to the NFL Combine:

  • Robert Ayers, DE
  • Demonte Bolden, DT
  • Britton Colquitt, P
  • Arian Foster, RB
  • Ramon Foster, OT
  • Anthony Parker, OG
