Future Opponents

Here’s a rundown on some of the teams that have signed up to get dominated in Neyland Stadium in the near (or not so near) future.  Some of these matchups are still tentative, especially the ones farther away.  It’s typical for these home-and-home series to be moved around or cancelled altogether.  Nonetheless, here are some big name opponents the Vols will face sometime in the next decade:

2010 – Oregon
2011 – at North Carolina
2012 – North Carolina
2012 – at North Carolina State
2013 – at Oregon
2013 – North Carolina State
2014 – at Oklahoma
2015 – Oklahoma
2015 – at Connecticut
2016 – Connecticut
2016 – at Nebraska
2017 – Nebraska
2018 – Ohio State
2019 – at Ohio State

The three biggest names that stick out to me are North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Ohio State.

I think North Carolina is going to jump out this year and show that they are a legitimate contender in the ACC with Butch Davis at the helm.  And when we stroll in to Chapel Hill in 2011, those top 10 recruiting classes Davis has been putting together will be starting to show their worth.  It’s going to be interesting to see what the Vols can do against the coach who many had pegged as Tennessee’s top target to replace ole Phil.

God, I hate Jim Tressel.

God, I hate Jim Tressel.

There’s not much I can say about the other two opponents, except for the fact that they will be much anticipated games for most fans of the big orange.  I am definitely looking forward to 2018, when the Buckeyes come to town.  I’ve always despised this team and their head coach (I grew up a pretty big Michigan fan before my conversion to orange), and would love to see them get their asses waxed in front of 100,000+ fans clad in orange and white.
