Oku a Vol
The saga that was David Oku’s recruitment has come to a surprisingly quiet end.
More than a month after National Signing Day, Oku has signed his letter of intent to play for the University of Tennessee.
Oku will bring some quality depth to the running back position, and his versatility out of the backfield (see: Brian Westbrook) will give the Vols a lot of options offensively.
The signing of Oku puts a definite twist on the Vol’s recruitment of five-star running back Bryce Brown. Brown now has two choices. Will he follow Oku, or head elsewhere?
If our recruiting machine can do what it’s being payed to do, Brown could be convinced to join Oku in the Tennessee backfield. All it takes is giving Brown a little crash course in some of our coaches’ history with running back duos:
- Eddie Gran, while at Auburn, coached both Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams. We all know what kind of talent those young men had, and the way they elevated Auburn’s program.
- Lane Kiffin, while at USC, had both Reggie Bush and LenDale White in the same backfield. While at USC, they combined for 4,944 rushing yards.
Not only were these four players amazing in college, but each of them ended up exactly where Bryce Brown wants to be… the NFL.
So, we’ve gotten one of our top post-NSD signings. Orson Charles could make it two tomorrow, when he announces his decision at 4:30 ET.
