A No. 9 Seed? What?
No, Tennessee didn’t have a great season.
But during Sunday’s selection show, did I ever think I’d see us as a #9 seed? No way.
After the schedule Bruce put together for this season, easily one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation (#2 S.O.S.), I expected the committee to put us somewhere between a #5 and #8 seed. But a #9? That’s a slap in the face.
Obviously, the committee feels like the SEC just isn’t the conference that it was last season. The conference received only three bids: LSU (#8 seed), Tennessee (#9 Seed), and Miss St. (#13 Seed). Had State not beaten us in the Championship Game on Sunday, we would have had only two bids for the entire conference. To me, that just doesn’t seem right.
I’m not the only one shocked by this seeding, though, Bruce Pearl was taken aback after seeing the committee give the Vols a #9 seed. The Vols will face Oklahoma State on Friday, at 12:25 et in Dayton, OH.
Thinking about it for a second, that means if we had won the SEC tournament, we likely would have been a No. 7 seed, at best. That makes a whole lot of sense.
Obviously, Mike Slive is a huge Tennessee fan.
